The weak point of the original Volkswagen-designed Vanagon cruise control system is the foot pedal switch design and mounting. Nine times out of ten, when an OEM cruise control does not work, it is something related to these switches.* VW employed a redundant shut-off system that kills BOTH the electrical connection AND the vacuum circuit when you press the brake (or clutch on manual shift vehicle) pedal. The switches commonly fail both electrically and mechanically. Plus, replacements are often hard to come by and costly if you can find them. The GoWesty-designed pedal cancelling switch completely eliminates the redundant and unreliable vacuum dump system. That alone will improve reliability substantially.
Each kit comes complete with everything you need to replace one pedal switch.
Note: If you have a manual transaxle, make sure to order TWO of these kits, and eliminate the vacuum dump circuit.
*We cannot guarantee that replacing the switches will fix your cruise! The Bentley manual has an excellent section on troubleshooting the OEM cruise system. We recommend you follow that troubleshooting guide to make sure there is nothing else wrong with the system.
